Official Status: FreeTV Channel List

The Nigerian Federal Government officially launched the FreeTV platform on June 17, 2026, as part of the country’s long-awaited Digital Switch-Over (DSO) programme. While the platform promises access to more than 100 channels at no subscription cost, an itemized public registry of every specific channel name has not been released by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) at this time.

What We Know About The Platform

  • Availability: Access is provided through a hybrid of satellite, terrestrial transmission (DVB-T2/DVB-S2), and a dedicated mobile application.

  • Programming Variety: The 100+ channels are curated to include a mix of national, regional, and state broadcasters. Key genres include news, sports, movies, music, children’s content, and specialized educational programming.

  • Language Support: The platform specifically highlights the inclusion of dedicated channels for Nigeria’s major indigenous languages: Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo.

  • Infrastructure: To support this rollout, the government is establishing regional production hubs in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kano, and Benin to decentralize content creation and ensure a steady stream of local programming.

Why an Exact List is Currently Unavailable

According to the Director-General of the NBC, Mr. Charles Ebuebu, the platform is designed to be dynamic. The NBC is actively updating the channel lineup as more content producers and regional broadcasters finalize their integration into the digital network. Because the service is still in its initial rollout phase, the channel configuration remains subject to adjustment as the network expands beyond the launch date.

How to Access the Channels

You do not need a brand-new television set to receive these channels. If you currently use a DVB-T2 or DVB-S2 compatible decoder, you may already be eligible to receive the signal by performing a fresh channel scan on your device. Households without compatible equipment will need an appropriate digital set-top box to bypass the need for monthly pay-TV subscriptions.

For the most accurate and up-to-date list of channels as they are activated in your specific region, it is recommended to perform an “Auto-Scan” or “Channel Search” on your decoder settings. This will pull the current localized list of active frequencies and channels available in your immediate reception area.
